Fire powers to bumper win

Fire In His Eyes ran out an impressive winner of the concluding bumper at Wexford under a confident ride by Luke McGuinness.

The Tony Martin-trained gelding had been well held on his 'track' debut in a Leopardstown maiden hurdle over Christmas but the Gigginstown-owned son of Stowaway left that well behind.

McGuinness cruised into the lead three furlongs out on the 8/1 shot and sent him from home turning in.

Fire In His Eyes soon powered clear and McGuinness could afford to ease down in the closing stages for a comprehensive 18 length success. A Rated sent off the 4/6 favourite, faded tamely coming down the hill and finished a well-beaten fourth.

"That is my third winner. He seems like a nice horse, he was in Gordon's last year and then he went to Tony's,” revealed McGuinness.

“He is slow, he wouldn't be the quickest but he can really gallop."
