Fitzgutentyte benefitted from a peach of a ride by Robbie Power to finally open her account in the Cahore Point Handicap Hurdle at Wexford.

The eight-year-old mare came into this two-mile event with the unpromising wins to runs record of 0-30 but put that right with a late flourish.

The Colm Murphy-trained daughter of Beneficial was given a patient ride by Power, who got after her approaching the straight.

The 8/1 chance was still only fourth over the final flight but really came home strongly on the short run-in to deny Mrs Mac Veale (20/1), who made a costly mistake at the last, by three quarters of a length. Fantastic Strike (16/1) held every chance a further length and a half back in third, with Marashin (8/1) finding no extra in the closing stages back in fourth.

Murphy said, “That’s about time! She has been unlucky a few times, and probably came up against well handicapped horses. She’ll mix it over hurdles and fences now, and will be kept on the go for the summer.”
