Fitzgerald and Torrens Flying

We've all heard the advice, follow a stable in form, and Michael Fitzgerald and Mervyn Torrens showed the truth in this argument when continuing fine recent runs at Wexford this evening. Stylish Bid had the www.wexfordracecourse.ie Maiden Hurdle confirmed in her favour when Collingwood (4/1 in the morning into 7/4) almost unseated Ruby Walsh at the last. Tommy Treacy rode the four and a half length victor and this daughter of Desert Style was a second winner in a row for Kilkenny handler, Michael Fitzgerald, following Youngborogal's all the way thirteen length romp at Naas on Wednesday night.

Stylish Bid was bought out of Michael Grassick's for 6,000 Euro at Goffs Autumn Sales in 2006 as a maiden, and here she was adding to a Ballinrobe flat win for her current connections back in May.

Andrew Thornton rode his first winner on Arondo at this course a fortnight ago and he is quickly making a name for himself as he secured his fourth number one tonight on the same horse in the Londis Rocklands Service Station Handicap Hurdle.

All these have been for Omagh trainer, Mervyn Torrens (five and a half hours away from Wexford). They teamed up with Dancera at Ballinrobe on Tuesday night and Canulos at Downpatrick on July 14th. Arondo himself competed at Ballinrobe when third, also on Tuesday and the German-bred is obviously a durable sort to come out and make all for a four length win in this two miler.

He probably had the measure of Baguenaud and Ballymac Grey when that pair departed independently at the last. Well-backed favourite, Another Ambition (4s into 2s) could only manage third.
