The finish of the Guinness Handicap Chase was fought out by a couple of Galway specialists with Fosters Cross (Bryan Cooper up) ultimately defeating Darenjan by four and three parts of a length.

Of course Fosters Cross enjoyed two big days at Ballybrit before, winning a Grade 3 novice chase in October 2009 and the amateur handicap in 2011.

Indeed he was second in that year's Galway Hurdle too. Here he got the better of the dual course victor, Darenjan, in the final furlong. Gamble of the race, Clara More (11/2 into 7/2) had to settle for third, three lengths back.

Winning trainer Tom Mullins said: "He jumped well and he'd run well against Rebel Fitz at Cork the last day.

"He has a decent mark over fences and it was a nice pot to get.

"We might go for the Kerry National now." (AM & EM)
