Gamble on Denny pays off

Eddie Lynam had three in the Winter Racing At Dundalk and when Words Of Wisdom came out earlier in the day, the odds on his stable companion Denny Crane quickly tumbled (7s – 7/2). Denny Crane ended up the 9/4 favourite and he justified that level of confidence to keep Eddie Lynam's fantastic run of form going.

Wayne Lordan led on the three times previous course winner from a furlong out and he stayed on well to convincingly beat Solo Performer (staying on well in the latter stages) by a length. The gambled-on Un Hinged (12 into 5s on track) could only dead-heat for fifth place.

Lynam said: "It's nice to win. We changed the tactics with him a bit, there wasn't a lot of pace and he was ridden a bit more forward.

"It's nice to have him back winning. He was very good here last year but then he looked a bit in the grip of the handicapper."
