Ivy Gate got a lovely run through on the rail to claim the concluding bumper at Listowel this evening.

The lead was hotly contested throughout in the two-and-a-half mile contest with Flemensdelight in front early but headed at halfway by The Ramblin Kid

The new leader was joined in the back straight by Creadan Mist and Itsonethelist and it was the later who tried to kick for home entering the straight.

He was claimed under two furlongs out by newcomer Railway Adella but Ivy Gate had been switched to the rail by Andrew Latta and soon tackled that rival.

John Kiely's charge forged ahead inside the final furlong to record a two-length success. Chute Hall the gamble of the race from 5/1 this morning into 5/4f, was under pressure from some way out but plugged on to take the third.

The 10/1 winner was gaining a deserved success having not enjoyed the best of fortune on a couple of recent runs.

“That wasn't before time. He's been unlucky but he's always had ability,” said Kiely.

“He fell when he looked like winning in Mallow and he got two bumps in Killarney the last day.

“We were thinking about going back point-to-pointing with him so it's a good job he won today as it's his last run before the cut off point.

“He jumps well and he'll go hurdling. That's his ground – he wouldn't like real deep ground.”
