Gift looks bright prospect

Gift Of Dgab looked a novice chaser to note after making an impressive winning debut over fences at Limerick.

Davy Russell popped his mount out in front in the 2m3f Askeaton Beginners Chase and he had his rivals in trouble turning for home.

The Tony Martin-trained Gigginstown gelding scooted clear going to the second last and powered home in the closing stages for a 17-length victory. The Engineer just won a duel for the runner-up spot with Wilde Wit Pleasure

The winner had proven smart over hurdles last season and there was plenty of confidence behind him today as he sent off even-money favourite after trading at 9/4 this morning.

"He was nicer flowing on in front as he's a bit hard to settle and is almost too brave," said Russell.

"I think he'll be better in a better race where they go on a stride quicker."
