Whats Up Gorden held the late charge of Hesaposer to claim the Moate Handicap Hurdle at Kilbeggan.
Robert Jones sent his mount on at the fifth last and he looked to have matters in hand before the penultimate flight.
The Adrian Maguire-trained gelding kept on well in the closing stages as Hesaposer flew home to get within a length at the line.
The winner is set to return to chasing having suffered a fall on his last start over the larger obstacles.
"I'm delighted for (owner) Mona Masterson. She has been very patient. He ain't a bad horse and hopefully can build on this and go in the right direction," said Maguire.
"He was a little disappointing before his break but this is a nice foundation to build on.
"He's a horse that needs a fence and a bit more of a trip. We'll look at the 2m3f handicap chase at Listowel on the Tuesday although the trip is a little bit of a concern.
"There was a bit of crossed wires between him and Paul (Carberry) at Galway when he tipped up at the second.
"He was just fresh and well. He stumbled on landing and knuckled over. He didn't deserve to fall.
"Today it was nice to come back and get a confidence booster."
