Hawk flies home for McCourt

Spring Hawk ran out a convincing winner of the Fonacab 90333333 Handicap at Down Royal for Tom McCourt.

In form apprentice Ben Curtis sent his mount to the front over a furlong from home and she was soon in command.

The daughter of Hawk Wing pulled away in the closing stages for a three-and-a-half length victory over Mad Existence

"She won well. I thought she was entitled to do that as she's been working well," said McCourt.

"All her form is on the all-weather but she loves firm ground. She's not big to carry the weight but done it well and stays. The ground is the major point for her.

"The handicapper will probably be hard enough on her and hopefully she'll be up to running in a better handicap off a handy weight.

"She will improve from that and has plenty of ability."
