Hughes/Loughran the Masters at Thurles

Racing resumed in the south of the country at Thurles today where the opening W.T. O'Grady Memorial Hurdle went to the Dessie Hughes trained Action Master under Roger Loughran.

The son of Domedriver, a hurdle winner in thick fog at Punchestown in November, raced in second before eventually moving to the front after two out. Action Master did hang to the left approaching the final flight but eventually stayed on to hold off the challenge of Sounds Of Jupiter by a length.

Afterwards Hughes reported “we tried Action Master in cheek-pieces at Leopardstown the last day as he carries his head awkwardly but they didn't seem to work. He has loads of ability and may be suited by a better run race. He goes on heavy ground but I've no plans for him from here.”
