Hurler And Farmer the subject of a gamble when just touched off over course and distance last month, made amends when getting up close home in the Cahore Point Handicap Hurdle.
The Red Clubs gelding, owned and bred by Armagh based Glen Devlin, was supported in the morning from 16/1 and went off a 5/1 chance when beaten a head by Snowell here on St Patrick’s Day.
The Dessie Hughes-trained five-year-old was a steady 11/2 second favourite on this occasion but appeared to have plenty to do as The Conker Club made the best of his way home after two out.
However Mark Enright’s mount gradually wore that rival down on the run-in, leading close home to score by half a length. On My Own was a further nine lengths adrift in third, with Behemoth completing the placings in fourth.
Hughes said, “He made up for the last day. Had he jumped the last hurdle the last day here he probably would have won. He got caught for a bit of toe going to the second last but stayed on well.
“We’ll probably step him up in trip, and he’ll be kept on the go for the summer.”
