Hurricane Georgie ran out an impressive winner of the AXA Farm Insurance Midlands National Handicap Chase at Kilbeggan.

The Gordon Elliott trained mare had been campaigned over hurdles in recent starts but looked seriously well handicapped on this return to chasing.

Kennedy arrived travelling easily on the run to the final fence and took up the running to go away and win by 13 lengths. Popong stayed on to take second with long time leader Fairyhill Run back in third.

“We thought she had a good chance and thought she was our best chance coming here,” said Elliott.

“Jack gave her a lovely ride, he said they went quick early. In fairness she stayed going well and she's very tough.

“She had a nice weight on her back but she's climbing up the ladder the whole time.

“She probably won too well but they are here to do their best so it's great.

“She'll be entered in the Plate but it might just happen a bit fast for her around Galway.

“She might be a horse for a Kerry National or something like that. We'll have a lot of fun with her.”
