Impersonator makes the most of his chance

Impersonator came to Ballinrobe two days after a Tipperary success, his first since February 2008, and he made up for lost time by gaining a second win in three days for the bang-in-form Tony Mullins and his nephew Emmet in the Almotech In-Store Radio Handicap Hurdle.

The ten-year-old again travelled supremely well but Malande was beginning to get away from him going to the last when she got in underneath the flight, forfeiting valuable momentum. Impersonator took his chance well in fairness, going on to beat Malande by a length and three parts.

Tony Mullins said: "Emmet felt all the way to the last that he wouldn't win but when the other horse met it wrong it gave him his chance. He is just not the bravest and if you put the gun to his head he won't find anything. There is a two mile handicap at Galway on Monday but that will come too soon.

"He'll probably go for the amateur handicap hurdle over two miles two on the Friday."

Impersonator was a good result for a lot of punters, backed from 4/1 in the morning into 9/4 favouritism. Red Kingdom made a bad mistake at the third and was never able to get into it while the well-fancied Arguidos was beaten from a long way out.
