Irish success at Musselburgh

Strongpoint trained by Charlie Swan won the first race on the card at Musselburgh this afternoon the Jeden Business Carpets Conditional Jockeys´ Handicap Hurdle.

The 5yo gelding ran an eye-catching race at Ffos Las on his last start to finish third and came on from that run to land this contest under Harry Skelton.

The point to point winning gelding (won at Dromahane in April of last year) led from four out and drew clear two out to score by five lengths at 5/2fav.

Their was further Irish success in the second race on the card when the Clare MacMahon owned and trained Carlito Brigante scored under Jason Maguire at 20/1 in the Weatherbys Printing Juvenile Novices´ Hurdle.

The former David Wachman trained gelding was having just his second start for the stable and his second run over hurdles. He won a handicap at Leopardstown in April, but failed to get his head in front in his next five starts before being sold .

The 3yo led after the last and stayed on well to win by two and three parts of a length from another outsider Orsippus at 18/1.

The third Irish trained winner of the day came in the last race on the card as the Gordon Elliott trained Definite All Star claimed the Border Safeguard Ltd Maiden Open NH Flat Race at 6/5fav.

The 5yo only Martin Lynch owned gelding was having his second start after finishing fourth to Perfect Smile at Navan earlier this month.

Jason Maguire completed his double aboard the winner who just got the better of Allow Me by three parts of a length with the 100/1 shot If Ever a further half a length back in third.

Earlier in the day the trio of Elliott, Lynch and Maguire had to settle for second when their evens favourite Meath All Star failed to get the better of Hold Fast for the Johnson, Wylie, O’Regan team in the Edinburgh Evening News Maiden Hurdle over 2m 4f.

Elliott was completing a cross the card double with Definite All Star after Chicago Grey won at Thurles earlier in the day.
