Davy Russell guided James Dullea’s Red Or White home at 5/1 in the Waterford & Tramore Handicap Chase over two miles seven furlongs.

The six-year-old gelding travelled well as he took up the running on the climb to two out. A good jump at the last sealed victory as he hit the line four lengths up.

The winner’s SP was 5/1. All Fired Up the 3/1 favourite, couldn’t go with him at the business end and finished second under Paddy Kennedy. Abarta (25/1) was a further six and a half lengths away in third. He hadn’t been placed since winning at Ballinrobe in September 2011.

James Dullea said: "I was expecting him to run well. He went back over hurdles for his last run or two just to give him a bit of confidence. His jumping just seemed to get a bit deliberate a few runs ago over fences so we just gave him a run or two over hurdles to give him a bit of confidence and it worked a treat! We have been lucky around here.

"He won a point-to-point for us and he just lost his way. We didn’t think we would be at this stage with him twelve months ago. He will stick to these kind of races and these kind of trips and we will see what the handicapper will do. We will aim him maybe a grade above this next time but these are the kind of races for him and he wants this kind of ground.

“He will run again reasonably soon and we might have a look at Kilbeggan next week, but we will see how he comes out of this. If not Kilbeggan it will be within a week or two of it.

“Catriona O’Donovan and her husband Gerry own him and they are fantastic owners and huge supporters of mine. They love racing and that’s a good thrill for them.”
