Review KILBEGGAN 22nd Aug

Ruby Walsh was the man to follow as he recorded a double in contrasting styles on Vital Plot and Garrai Ard

The champion jockey always had Vital Plot close to the pace in the first division of the Donlon Development Ltd (C&G) Maiden Hurdle and took over the lead approaching the second-last flight.

Dermot Weld's 9-2 shot was pursued by favourite Mythical Prince and Had No Choice but there was plenty in the tank despite a mistake and he shook them off easily to win by 11 lengths.

Walsh rode a patient race from the rear on Garrai Ard before pouncing to take the J A Shaw Handicap Hurdle.

He settled at the back on Dusty Sheehy's five-year-old as Prominent Feature built up a healthy lead, and made stealthy progress on the final circuit before getting into contention approaching the second-last.

The 7-2 joint-favourite appeared to be going best of all and took over from market rival The Bay Lad between the final two flights before being driven clear to win by five and a half lengths.< Afasheen was sent off the 5-4 favourite for the Pat Doyle Memorial Mares Novice Hurdle and never gave supporters a moment's worry.

Robbie Power went straight to the front on Jessica Harrington's five-year-old, chased by Susie Van Hall and Ouhetu Des Mottes and nothing else ever got into the race.

Afasheen stretched away between the last two flights and despite an awkward jump at the last, had four lengths to spare at the line.

Alan Crowe barely had to move a muscle to land the second division of the maiden hurdle as he led home a JP McManus one-two on newcomer Abbey Glen

Christy Roche's 12-1 shot travelled sweetly throughout and was going noticeably well with two to jump, with Crowe sitting still behind the leaders as Brochure (4-1) in the same colours fought it out up front.

Abbey Glen eased ahead after the last flight without being asked a question and scored by a cosy length.
