Kid just gets home to land touch

Rock And Roll Kid landed a nice touch when edging a narrow verdict in the Irish Pony Club Raceday Trophy at the Curragh.

Danny Mullins appeared to have plenty of horse under him as the rest of the field came off the bridle two furlongs from home in the seven-furlong conditions event.

He asked his mount to quicken into the lead a furlong from home but he found it tough going to get the better of front-runner Bay Knight

The pair were locked together in the closing stages and flashed past the post as one. Only a short-head seperated the pair after the judge had a look.

The winner opened up 7/2 on course but was well backed and eventually went off the 9/4 favourite.

"I hope it's the start of a good week for Danny as he goes on the boat tonight over to Alan King," said his father and winning trainer Tony Mullins.

"He's going until Christmas. He can still claim for a while in England. I think he has about four or five winners left."

Mullins feels the winner has been harshly treated by the handicapper:-

"Off his ludicrous rating it's hard to know where to go. The (Listed) Navigation Stakes at Cork (October 15th) is where he'll go next.

"I hope the rain keeps coming. I saw the rain on the TV before I left so I was in good humour.

"If he gets his usual 10lb for winning here he'll be up with Sea The Stars shortly!"
