Lady O Malley provided her rider Gary Carroll with the perfect twenty-fourth birthday present, as she took the Meadowview Stables Handicap for trainer Joe Murphy.

The three-year-old daughter of Oratorio won her maiden at Ballinrobe on the seventh time of asking earlier this month, and she was given a seven pound hike in the ratings for that success.

She made all at Ballinrobe, and she did the same this evening, going clear from two furlongs out, before staying on well under pressure in the final furlong to score by three parts of a length. At Boolavogue ran well to take second at 5/1 under Pat Smullen for Bill Farrell, while Carenza the 5/2 favourite (was 5/1 this morning with Paddy Power), was a nose back in third under Connor King for David Marnane.

Joe Murphy said afterwards: “She is a very genuine filly and I think she’ll get further.

"She is in again at Ballinrobe next Tuesday and she’ll probably go there under a five pound penalty. She won her maiden there and she handles the track well.”
