Jessica Harrington's Lake Champlain stayed on stoutly to grab the spoils in the extended mile and two handicap at Down Royal.

Fran Berry was on board and got plenty of response from his charge inside the last quarter of a mile.

The pair made headway to lead with a furlong to go and kept on well to score by a length at 5/1. Muraabit (5/2) was collared at the one pole but ran on at the same pace to get second-placed money. Selskar Abbey the 5/6 favourite, was a length further adrift in third.

"His best run was in Navan following horses. Jessica wanted to get him relaxed. He hit a flat spot at the road but did it well in the end. A step up in trip will suit," Fran Berry said.

Lake Champlain was fourth behind Muraabit in Navan before finishing 10th in Leopardstown last-time out.
