Above The Law ran out a comprehensive winner of the apprentice handicap at Dundalk for trainer Andrew Oliver.

The Lawman gelding was having his first start in handicap company and was also dropping back to the minimum trip for the first time.

Sam James tracked the leaders on the 14/1 shot before delivering him to challenge at the furlong pole.

He soon hit the front and pulled away from his rivals inside the final furlong to post a five-length victory.

The winner had been a well-beaten eleventh in a Gowran Park maiden over seven furlongs just last Sunday.

“He did that well and Sam gave him a nice ride. We'll see how he progresses,” said Oliver.

“He's got speed and is a horse that just met with a few setbacks last year. We've treated him with kid-gloves as we wanted him to come to himself.”
