The Marquees Nationwide (QR) Handicap was a well-contested affair and for the second time in four races at Laytown the punters got it right as 11/4 joint favourite (from 7/2) Saratoga Baby triumphed.

An initial representative at the venue for trainer Peter Fahey and rider Jane Mangan, the big daughter of High Chaparral led well over a furlong out on the way to a two and three quarter length success from Oor Jock

Fahey explained: "That was great. We were always thinking that this place would suit with there being no stalls in use.

"She tends to be slow out and that makes it harder for her.

"This is grand for the syndicate. They're all from Celbridge and they're headed up by Brian Walsh who also bred her.

"She might go to the Curragh now on Saturday week for a mile handicap."

Jason McKeown put up two pounds over-weight on Happy Maverick who finished eighth of the nine. He was fined 150 Euros for failing to make trainer Donal Kinsella aware.

Such a scenario now needs to be declared but McKeown was unaware of the new rules and he also thought he was lighter. (GC & EM)
