Light left clear after run-in drama

Gallant Light proved best in a dramatic finish to the second division of the maiden hurdle at Gowran.

The Jessica Harrington-trained gelding was just getting the upperhand on Taking Stock on the run-in when that one slipped up.

Robbie Power was left clear on his mount to score by seven-lengths from Black Alpine

"He's just taken a long time to come right. He was hobdayed before he ever ran and had another wind op in the spring," said Harrington afterwards.

"It's taken him a while to organise his breathing and Robbie said he was glad that the wind was on his back and not in his face as that would effect one with a wind problem.

"We'll head to a winners race with him now rather than a handicap as he needs to learn a bit more.

"He's a real chaser in the making. He's had a lot of problems though and very nearly went to the sales, he was entered twice."

Harrington also had sympathy for the faller Taking Stock:- "It's not nice when that happens."
