Local man wrecks it for gamble

Niall Moran and Luke McNiff combined for a local success in the Sligo Park Hotel Maiden Hurdle as Wreckitman galloped on strongly to account for gambled-on Back In The Day by four lengths.

McNiff was always on the pace on the Marignan (now deceased and had a winner at Cork on Monday with Ebony Diamond) gelding, he led two out and from there home the five-year-old saw out the three mile trip best.

Moran, who trains at Strandhill, said: "He is a bit lazy and the blinkers helped. The trip was the key though and even though he missed a few (hurdles) he kept galloping. He will go chasing before the end of the year.

"Eddie (McAllister) who bred him too, is a good owner. He is a member of the Polka Syndicate."

Matt O'Connor dislocated a finger when getting a fall from Quantum Theory at the sixth last here.
