Luddsdenene completed a treble at Downpatrick for Gordon Elliott as he ran out a very easy winner of the A J C Electrical Newcastle Handicap Chase under Davy Russell (his only ride on the card).

The nine-year-old son of Beneficial was providing Elliott with his sixteenth winner of the year and Downpatrick and his eighth winner this week.

Sent off the 9/4 favourite he was settled in mid-division before cruising into the lead after the fourth last.

He soon stretched clear and never came off the bridle, coming home twelve lengths to the good.

Mia’s Anthem kept on well to take second at 10/3 under Mick Darcy for Noel Kelly while Personal Shopper was a further four lengths back in third.

Davy Russell said afterwards: “He made amends for the last day. Gordon said he came out of it fine (fell in Tipperary). He jumped well and handled the track better than I thought he would. Gordon's horses are in great order. Long may it last!"

The winner is owned by Tom Howley Junior.
