One of last year’s best juveniles Psychedelic Funk got off the mark for the new season at Naas today as the Ger Lyons trained colt landed the concluding Follow Naas Racecourse On Facebook Race in taking fashion under jockey Colin Keane.

The son of Choisir, third in last year’s Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot, was today racing over a mile for the first time but seemed to get every inch of the trip when recording a fine four lengths win over Panama Hat Indeed the 106 rated runner-up himself came out of the race with plenty credit, on his first start for almost two years.

Lyons later honestly admitted “the first thing to say, is what was I doing running him over six furlongs?! I had no idea if he would get the trip, and we had to find that out tonight - I'm actually for once happy!”

“When Colin (Keane) got off him after finishing second to Caravaggio here the last day he said this gets further, and I said if he gets further then he's a good horse.

"We were going nowhere in the other division, and he's so lazy and so heavy we can't get him fit at home. He was going nowhere turning in and Colin said he half panicked on him, and then you see what happened. I actually enjoyed watching that!

“We've learned plenty and he is a good horse; he’s not ground dependant as long as I don't run him with firm in the ground description. He's answered a lot of questions tonight, and we have got a Brendan Bracken substitute in the offing from now on. He's a nice horse to have.”
