Madame Mado wins mares hurdle

Former Nicky Henderson inmate Madame Mado (5/1) made all for a first Irish win, in the Casey Tarmacadam Mares Hurdle at Wexford today.

Jockey Barry Cash had no concerns about making the running and sent the mare into a clear lead with a circuit to race. Cash kept the daughter of Lost World up to her work in the straight to eventually defeat Sugar Bullet by four and a half lengths.

Afterwards winning trainer Willie Murphy said “Barry (Cash) wasn’t on board Burnt Oil Babe when she won for me the last day but it’s great to have my stable jockey back again!”

“I hope and think Madame Mado could be very good. She was bought as a broodmare a year ago at the Doncaster Sales by my next door neighbours Eithne O’Toole and this is their first horse.

“Madame Mado had problems all last year and she’ll probably now go for a better race.”
