Jessica Marcialis took the Irish leg of the Fegentri World Championship for Lady Qualified Riders for the second successive year when veteran Beau Michael returned to form in the mile and a half handicap.

The Italian rider extended her lead in the series this year as she produced the durable nine-year-old gelding to lead over a furlong out.

Ado McGuinness’ charge, now the winner of 15 races on the Flat and over jumps, kept on well inside the final furlong to beat Crystal Earth by three quarters of a length. Midsomer Mist cut out most of the running and kept going to take third a further two lengths back.

McGuinness said, “I wasn’t expecting that but every time you just start to lose faith in him he keeps coming back. He’s been a brilliant servant for the boys (Total Recall Racing Club) and I don’t know what we will do to replace him when the time comes.

“He will go to Galway although I’m not sure exactly for what race. The big amateur handicap is a possible, and there is also a 0-80 rated two-mile handicap.

“She gave him a great ride, just sat off the pace slightly and picked them up well. Maybe she might stay over for Galway!”
