McDonogh shines on Cush

Acushladear made the most of her opportunity after getting in as first reserve in the Ballykisteen Handicap at Tipperary.

Declan McDonogh made the decision to go over to the stand's rail as the field turned for home and it proved an intelligent move.

Pat Tallis' filly, sent off 11/4 favourite, got on top inside the final furlong to post a length-and-three-quarters victory over Alpha And Omega

"It's grand to get a winner. We don't hit the winners' enclosure too often!" said Tallis.

"She's been knocking on the door and deserved to get a turn. We had been looking for an excuse to go to Galway and we've got one now.

"She's a grand mare and got a grand ride from Declan but Seamus Heffernan normally rides mine and hopefully we'll get him again. He brought her to where she is now.

"I have six in training and I only do the mucking out. I have to thank the lads in the yard who do all the hard work."
