Review BALLINROBE 20TH OCT

Champion-elect Declan McDonogh booted home a double at Ballinrobe on Friday to take his tally to 86 for the season.

Armanatta initiated the brace when claiming the McWilliam Park Suite Claremorris Handicap.

McDonogh got a lovely run through on the rail turning for home and kept the Anne Marie O'Shea-trained mare going down the straight to score by three lengths from Chuinn Mhuire.

Jump jockey Adrian O'Shea was representing his wife, who has a team of nine in training at their Co Kilkenny base.

'She hit the front a bit too soon at Bath last time. We took her over there as we couldn't get a run here - she was balloted out 5 times. Declan gave her a super ride. He's not going to be champion jockey for nothing.'

Orpen Princess completed the double for McDonogh when running out an easy winner of the Come Racing In Ballinrobe 2007 Handicap.

Joe Crowley's charge was in front at half-way and went clear two-and-a-half furlongs out to score by eight lengths from Celtic Warrior.

The runner-up's trainer, Liam Roche, had struck in the opening McWilliam Park Hotel Claremorris Handicap with Holbien.

The Orpen colt was soon in front and went clear before the bend under Danny Grant. He ran about in the closing stages but still had far too much for his rivals, beating Aliceinwonderland by three lengths.

'Six furlongs is his trip. He was a bit keen early on at Cork last time and got found out in the last 50 yards,' said Roche.

'He's an improving horse and could go for a handicap before the end of the season. He's hard as nails and eats every nut.'

Keel Castle Maine opened his account in great style when taking the McWilliam Park Best Western Premier Maiden.

Chris Hayes sent his mount on half a mile out and the gelding earned due reward for his consistency, running out an effortless 12-length winner.

It had been a similar story in the previous race with Tempting Paradise a comfortable 13-length winner of the Best Western Premier Claremorris Maiden.

Eastern Path sprang a 20/1 shock when making virtually all in the Kavanaghs Bar Claremorris Race and holding the challenge of Treasure Map by three-parts-of-a-length.

'The ground and distance suited her. She just keeps galloping and will make a lovely filly next year,' said trainer Tim Doyle.

The bookies were also cheering home 33/1 shot Leadmore in the concluding Karma's Health & Beauty Claremorris Handicap as she cruised to a four-and-a-half length victory under Willie Supple.

Barney's Dream wore down Phoenix Factor in the final furlong to claim the JG's Restaurant Claremoriss Handicap.
