Review BALLINROBE 14TH AUG

Breaker Morant showed great determination to make it four in a row at Ballinrobe on Monday night.

Adrian McGuinness' charge found himself unable to take up his customary front-running role in the JPS Property Development Ballinrobe Handicap but it made no difference in the end.

Declan McDonogh finally got the gelding's head in front a furlong from home and he stayed on strongly to score by three-parts-of-a-length from Shaykhan.

'He'll probably go to Bellewstown next week - although he'll probably be hammered again at the weights. Declan said he idled a bit when he hit the front and then battled on again. He gave him another great ride,' said McGuinness.

Saint Andrew blew away the opposition in the opening Irish Stallion Farms EBF Median Auction Maiden.

Pat Smullen's mount broke smartly to get across to the lead from his wide draw and powered away from his rivals up the straight to score by five-and-a-half lengths.

'He was entitled to win that. He was fourth in a Listed race and should have been third but was nearly put through the rail,' said Francis Casey, son of trainer Peter.

'He had a touch of sore shins earlier in the year and was just holding back a bit so we decided to put the cheek pieces on.'

It was a similar story in the Tim Kelly Electrical Handicap as Karasay made all for an easy victory. Chris Hayes kicked on turning for home and the Joanna Morgan-trained filly sprinted clear to score by three lengths from Salishan.

The champion apprentice said: 'She's a filly that's had no luck and has been hampered a few times. She got out and clear today and that made the difference.'

Johnny Murtagh was also keen to lead on Forfeiter in the Finlay's Mace Maxol Claiming Race. The Ger Lyons-trained gelding was joined by Merlins Profit before the turn but battled well to prevail by a neck.

Paddy Flood continued his remarkable form when partnering Glenhaven Man to success in the Healy's Statoil Beginners Chase.

Mick Murphy's charge could turn out again at the track in three weeks time after beating Cellarmaster by five-and-a-half lengths on his chasing debut.

Tom Ryan stepped in for the winning ride on Runfar in the Carrowholly Shell Fish Handicap Chase. The John Monroe-trained mare stayed on well to score by two-and-a-half lengths from Dancing Impact.
