Review BALLINROBE 24TH JUL

Pat Smullen bagged a double at Ballinrobe on Monday night courtesy of Piltown and Reside.

Smullen teamed up with father-in-law Joe Crowley as Piltown gained a deserved success, in the Andy & Judy O'Rourke Memorial Handicap, following a string of placed efforts.

The champion jockey was keen to lead on the gelding and kept him going well, down the straight, to score by two lengths from Ribald.

'He'll go to Galway on Monday for a mile-and-a-half race. He jumps well and will go over hurdles in time,' said Crowley's assistant Damien Byrne.

Smullen combined with boss Dermot Weld in the AIB Westport Maiden as Reside ran out an easy winner.

The Montjeu filly kicked on before the bend and soon pulled clear to score by six lengths from Creekhaven.

Segoria was produced with a well-timed run by Mark Lane to land the opening Paddy Smyth Memorial Handicap by two lengths from Lilly Be.

'She's in foal to Mull Of Kintyre and will probably have her last run at Naas on Wednesday,' said winning trainer Edgar Byrne.

Always The Groom landed a bit of a touch when running out a cosy three-length winner on his handicap debut in the Derrinstown Stud Apprentice Coranna Handicap.

The Pat Flynn-trained gelding was backed from 16/1 in the morning to 8/1 on course.

'He's a nice horse and will hopefully go on to win plenty more. He has really improved this year and will probably go to Galway next,' said Flynn's assistant Martin Maguire.

Serve Time made it two from two when making an impressive winning debut over hurdles in the McDonald Motors Maiden Hurdle.

Ruby Walsh sent the 8/13f on before the second last and the Noel Glynn-trained gelding went on for a cosy four-length victory over Share Option.

Straycat Strut caused a 20/1 shock in the Yolanda O'Gorman Memorial Beginners Chase when staying on well in the closing stages to repel the challenge of 6/4f Cellarmaster by a length-and-three-quarters.

The Jesuit defied a near year absence to run out an easy four-length winner of the concluding Centra Hurdle.
