Review BALLINROBE 29TH MAY

Johnny Murtagh cemented a new link up with Ger Lyons when lunging late to score on She's Supersonic at Ballinrobe.

The mare flew home inside the final furlong to grab South West Nine on the line in the Supermacs Ballinrobe & Claremorris Handicap.

Lyons revealed after the race that Tadgh O'Shea is no longer stable jockey at his Dunsany yard and that Murtagh had agreed to ride for him when not claimed by Michael Halford.

'I've decided to use the best available. Johnny has committed to ride outside of Halford and Cathy Gannon will also ride a lot. I had to look after number one as racing is so competitive now - even to win a race at Ballinrobe is so hard,' said Lyons.

Cnoc Rua sprang a 16/1 shock in the opening Finches Orange Auction Maiden when staying on strongly down the straight to beat well backed favourite Tara's Wisdom (7/4 to 6/4f) by three-and-a-half lengths.

'He's a smashing little horse,' said winning trainer Timmy Doyle. 'He's probably not good enough for a winners' race and is more likely to go for handicaps later in the year.'

Beneficial Guest left behind a disappointing performance at Perth last time when holding the flying finish of Ecole D'Art by a head in the Sheridan Electric Castlebar Maiden Hurdle.

'He was too free at Perth last time,' explained trainer Tony Martin. 'He's a nice horse and wants that better ground.'

Warren O'Connor notched his second winner of the season when All Diamonds wore down Undercover Glamour inside the final furlong to score by a neck in the Joe Heneghan Car Sales Handicap.

Joey Elliott sent Supreme Being for home three out in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Beginners Chase and he stayed on well when tackled by Sirius Storm at the last to score by two lengths.

Nicky O'Shea suffered a fall from Hardy Duckett in the chase and a sore shoulder meant that he missed the ride on Never Say No in the Carney's Bar Handicap Hurdle.

Mick Darcy stepped in for the mount and Cecil Ross' mare battled gamely to repel all challengers in the straight and score by a neck from Baile Huguin.

Warren Cafferty was taken to hospital for x-rays on a facial injury following a fall from Maggie Maggie May in the maiden hurdle.
