Review BALLINROBE 3RD SEP

Paul Hourigan partnered his first winner since returning from a troublesome shoulder injury when Discerning Air, trained by his father Michael for Cork based accountant Michael Walsh, won the opening four-year-old Maiden Hurdle at Ballinrobe's all jumps meeting yesterday .

However, Discerning Lady definitely had luck on her side as she was making little impression on Shaiyran when Philip Rothwell's charge cruelly unseated Norman Williamson at the final flight .

Co. Wicklow based Philip Rothwell received a measure of compensation for Shaiyran's demise when the locally owned Mayo Magic registered her second course success in the two mile four furlong Handicap Hurdle .

Joey Casey piloted Mayo Magic and he went on to complete a double when former pointer Hill Fox made most to score for the Billy Flavin stable in the Handicap Chase .

The giant-sized La Colina went to the head of affairs before three out under Neil Mulholland to account for Diablotin by a length in the two and a half mile Maiden Hurdle .

Trained by Eamonn Sheehy for Callan businessman John Doheny, La Colina will more than likely make his debut over the larger obstacles at Listowel in over a fortnight's time .

The Ted Walsh-trained Bushman's River was despatched to post the 5/4 favourite in the Novice Chase and the former useful hurdler had little difficulty in repelling Bodies Pride by three and a half lengths under his handler's son Ruby .

Barry Geraghty was seen at his confident best when his mount Victor Boy did the bare minimum to account for Binneas by two lengths in the two mile Handicap Hurdle . Incidentally, this was Geraghty's initial success for trainer Gerry Keane .
