Review BELLEWSTOWN 7-JUL-2000

Seamus Heffernan followed up his treble here on Thursday by partnering Headfort Rose to take the featured Tipperary Natural Mineral Water Handicap.

The Michael Cunningham-trained filly was fitted with blinkers after a number of disappointing efforts and, having led inside the final quarter mile, held on by a neck from Helen Bach with well-backed favourite Willyever a head away in third.

'She likes fast ground, and was on her last chance tonight,' said Cunningham afterwards.

The jackpot pool, which was not won on the previous two evenings here, swelled to #47,841, and the 16/1 victory of Headfort Rose eliminated many punters at the first leg. The pool looked set to be carried forward to next year as Annaghmore Gale led at the final flight. However he crashed out leaving the Ruby Walsh-ridden Mallaca Hill to provide two lucky jackpot punters with a dividend of #17,940 each.

Clan Royal rewarded odds-on support in the Sam Dennigan & Co Maiden Hurdle, cruising to the front before the penultimate flight for a cosy eight lengths success over Sardakaan. 'He acts well on fast ground, and may go chasing soon,' said winning trainer Arthur Moore.

Michael Hussey (18) was seen to good effect when partnered his seventh winner aboard Fraser Carey in the Derek Plant Farm Machinery Handicap. The eight-year-old gelding dug deep inside the furlong pole to beat the front-running Celtic Minstrel by a neck.
