Seamus Hefferrnan took the riding honours on day two of the annual Festival meeting when partnering a spectacular 535/1 treble aboard Like A Dream, Springfield Guest and Gossie Madera.
Like A Dream was friendless in the market at 16/1 for the Tattersalls Maiden but belied those odds by recording an emphatic victory. The Alzao filly, who cost just 2,000 guineas at Newmarket last December, skipped clear a quarter of a mile out to beat So Much More by eight lengths.
Successful permit holder Matty Tynan, whose only previous juvenile success was at Listowel two years ago, said: 'She ran green on her debut at Cork, and has improved quite a bit since.'
Heffernan, who finished runner-up in the Budweiser Irish Derby last Sunday on Glyndebourne, followed up on Springfield Guest in division two of the Ireland's Own Short Story Annual Handicap. The four-year-old gelding led over two furlongs out to provide Clare handler Denis Quinn with his first success. 'I took out a licence eight months ago, and have a mixed team of 12 in training,' said Quinn, who gained some of his experience with Jenny Pitman.
Heffernan moved onto the eleven winner mark for the season when Gossie Madera led a furlong out in the ONC Recruitment Handicap to beat Queen Sarabi by a length.
Alfie Evans saddled his first winner for three years when Illusions Tom caused a 33/1 shock in division one of the 0-50 handicap. The seven-year-old went clear early in the straight but needed a strong drive from Wayne Smith to hold on by a diminishing neck from Rochambelle. This victory greatly contributed to the jackpot pool not being won for the second successive day, and there is a #17,411.50 carryover to today's card.
