Review CLONMEL 19TH MAY

Jessica Harrington took the training honours with a 19/1 double, highlighted by the featured Sporting Press Tipperary Perpetual Cup Handicap triumph of Evening Scent.

Tadhg O'Shea's mount, previously successful here on the Flat and over hurdles at Punchestown, again forced the pace in her hat-trick bid, staying on really well in this two miles stamina test to beat Billy Bonnie by four lengths.

'She is very game, and improving with age. She needs a bit of ease in the ground, and we will probably switch her back to hurdles as that helps to keep her interested,' said Mrs Harrington's travelling head lad, Eamon Leigh.

The Moone handler doubled up when Aye Aye Popeye benefitted from a confident ride by Niki O'Shea in the Comeragh Novice Hurdle. The 20-year-old Tralee claimer, partnering his second winner, produced the gelding between horses to lead after two out for an eased down length-and-a-half verdict over Penny Farthing.

Jaguar Claw, sent clear on the downhill approach to the straight by Mark Madden in the Brian Winston Building Contractors Handicap Chase, threw away a winning chance when falling at the last with a four lengths advantage. This left the way clear for the Edward O'Grady-trained 20/1 outsider Ballincara to score under Larry Hurley.

Take Flite was produced with a well-timed challenge by David Casey to touch off Russian Comrade close home in the Kilsheelan Handicap. 'The Galway Hurdle is the long term target, although he will probably stay on the Flat for the moment,' said trainer Tony Mullins.

The well-backed Bali Breeze (7/4 to 5/4) was switched to challenge on the stands side in the straight by Declan McDonogh in the Roscrea EBF Fillies Maiden, and led over a furlong out to beat main market rival Minamala by two lengths.
