Review CLONMEL 8th May

Mon Champion got the better of a battling duel with Kharsya to land the 10-furlong Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden after an incident a furlong out that did the runner-up no favours.

Fran Berry had just edged in front on John Oxx's odds-on favourite when he appeared to lose an iron, and some of his momentum, as the filly put in a jump crossing a dark patch of grass.

Danny Grant seized the initiative and kept the Patrick Flynn-trained Mon Champion (7-4) going strongly to deny Kharsya by a head, with Value Of Time eight lengths further away in third.

Berry gained quick compensation when All Tied Up ran away with the Kilsheelan Handicap on her return to turf racing after a spell on the all-weather.

Tom Hogan's four-year-old (10-1) was close to the pace all the way and went on a quarter of a mile out before shooting clear of Appraise by five lengths.

Garryduff East caused a surprise when grabbing The Ethiopian on the line in the Sporting Press Maiden Hurdle.

Paul Carberry appeared to have timed his run to perfection on the long odds-on favourite, touching down in front over the last before clearing away from Pillar Of Hercules.

However, the Denis Leahy-trained Garryduff East (16-1) was just hitting top stride and came with a wet sail to prevail by a head.

Carberry went one better when Connemara Rose saw off all challengers in the Slievenamon Mares Handicap Hurdle.

Never allowed to relax in front with Coolgreaney snapping at her heels, the 10-1 chance responded well for pressure to repel the fast-finishing Stylish Bid by a neck.

After 16 previous attempts without joy, the Michael Hourigan-trained Some Craic finally broke his duck under Rules in the J.Winston Building Contractors Handicap Chase.

The 8-1 shot went prominent when Renepogel tumbled out of contention three obstacles from the finish and he stayed on well under Tom Doyle to pass the post nine lengths in front of Mister Buttons.
