Review CORK 2nd May

Contest was produced with a late challenge by treble-scorer Johnny Murtagh to run out a convincing winner of the Listed Cork Stakes for trainer David Wachman.

British challenger Tax Free set out to make all the running in the six-furlong event and looked to have everyone hard at work entering the final two furlongs.

But Murtagh, who had slotted in at the rear of the field, brought Contest (10-1) through on the outside and got the better of the market leader in the final 50 yards to score by a length and a quarter.

The Loan Express also ran very well, challenging late to finish third, a further short head away.

Ohiyesa (7-2) showed the benefit of her Dundalk debut run a fortnight ago to take the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Median Auction Maiden under Murtagh.

The Ger Lyons-trained filly was always well placed in the six-furlong contest and came to challenge when Vegas Baby went on two furlongs out, soon asserting and seeing off newcomer Conry by two and a half lengths.

The jockey's treble was completed by the Aidan O'Brien-trained Ice Queen in the 10-furlong Newmarket Fillies Maiden.

Ransomed Bride was delivered with a sustained run to take the lead inside the last two furlongs, but Ice Queen (13-2) sailed past going into the final 100 yards and went away to win by three and a half lengths.

Harrington was never far off the pace set by Kalderon in the 10-furlong Glantane Handicap and hit the front two furlongs out under Pat Smullen.

Satu threw down a challenge, but the Noel Furlong-trained 9-2 shot ran on well to score by a length and a quarter.

At Dundalk, debut winners Pasar Silbano and Emily Dickinson dominated the market for the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Race and they finished first and second, with the Ger Lyons-trained former (11-10) taking charge a furlong and a half out for a comfortable victory.
