Review CORK 6TH AUG

The Mullins family were celebrating at Cork on Sunday as 16-year-old Patrick made his first ride over hurdles a winning one.

His mount, Man On The Nile, did it in style in the Mallow Hurdle, sprinting clear after the second last to record an easy five-and-a-half length success over Merry Star.

The amateur pilot had to get special permission from the Turf Club to take the ride on his father Willie's charge.

Tralee and Listowel are on the agenda for the winner while Mullins senior also said he may try to find a two mile Flat handicap for the John Brennan-owned gelding.

There was an early morning plunge for Missgoodytwoshoes in the Charleville Handicap Hurdle and Tony Martin's charge was only narrowly denied.

The mare was backed from 5/1 to 6/4 before drifting to 5/2 on course. Marguerita led at the last under Robbie McNamara and held on by a neck as Missgoodytwoshoes flew home.

Billy Lee gave Musthav a confident ride in the Navigation Road Nursery, cruising into the lead a furlong out to record an easy three-length success on the 6/4f.

'It's nice to win one with her,' said assistant trainer Fozzy Stack. 'We'll look for another nursery while she is also in the Goffs Fillies Race.'

Miss Donovan caused a 20/1 shock in the Mitchelstown Maiden when proving half-a-length too strong for 1/3 shot Chief Crazy Horse.

The winner is a half-sister to Coventry Stakes winner Hellvelyn and trainer Declan Gillespie said: 'That makes her a valuable filly now.'

Always The Groom showed no ill effects from his success at Galway 24 hours earlier when getting up close home to land the Derrinstown Stud Apprentice Handicap under Keith Maher.

Zhukhov showed a smart turn of foot to land the corkracecourse.ie Handicap while Aldhaher Beebers also quickened well to claim the concluding bumper.
