Review CORK 4-JUL-2000

Fresh from their Irish Derby success, John Oxx and Johnny Murtagh combined for a 15/1 double at Cork this evening with their initial success coming in the opening 6f Maiden with Lady Thyne (7/4-3/1) .

The victorious newcomer went to the front inside the final furlong and comfortably held the late flourish of favourite Golden Hind by 3/4L .

Oxx wasn't present, but his assistant Slim O'Neill said of Christy Maye's homebred : ' She done it well enough and we will keep her to 6f for the moment ' .

The in-form duo later collected the 1m 1f 3yo fillies Maiden with the well bred Tarwila . A daughter of the Park Stakes winner Tarwiya, the 3/1 JF bounced away smartly and had little difficulty in scoring by a length . She will now take her chance in a handicap .

The Charlie Swan trained-Like A Lion beat Ceoil Agus Craic by 1 1/2L in the Novice Chase . However, Jason Titley's mount was a most fortunate winner as the frontrunning Beacon Lane held a 5L advantage when cruelly unseating Philip O'Brien at the last .

The ex-Pointer Torduff Boy went to the head of affairs at the penultimate obstacle to oblige by a Nk from Hunter's Chorus in the 3m Handicap Chase .

' He will probably now go to Galway for one of the handicaps, although the track could be too sharp for him ' , commented Torduff Boy's trainer Paul Nolan .

Evrobi, by the same sire as Sinndar, had just enough in reserve to contain the staying-on Willyever by the minimum margin in a blanket finish to the 7f Handicap .

Caroline Hutchinson partnered her first winner for Pat Martin when Breffni Flyer easily landed the 1m 1f Ladies Handicap . Jointly owned by Brendan Murphy and Frederick Pardy, Breffni Flyer will probably now go back over hurdles .

Rua Lass gamely made every post a winning one in the Bumper under Karl Wyse .
