Review CURRAGH 28TH JUN

Hurricane Alan maintained Richard Hannon's great record in sales races when taking the e130,000 Goffs Challenge in impressive fashion.

Richard Hughes survived an anxious moment at the start when banging his left leg off the stalls, but the son of Mukaddamah proceeded to make virtually all and stretched clear over a furlong out to beat Hazelhatch by 3 1/2L.

Hughes was stood down for the remainder of the evening, and will have to pass the doctor before racing tomorrow.

'He won as he liked, and is possibly a Group horse. The only reason he didn't go to Royal Ascot was because we had this race in mind,' said Richard Hannon junior.

Justin Curran partnered his first winner when Sights On Gold recorded an unlikely victory in the apprentice Derby.

Dermot Weld's charge came from what appeared an impossible position inside the final 1/4m, sweeping to the front in the final 100 yards to beat Alserna by 1 1/2L.

'I'm delighted for Justin as he's a hard working lad, and deserved the opportunity today. That will give this colt alot of confidence, and we will look for a Listed race next,' said Weld.

Brian Boru (1/1-2/1f) belied a lack of market confidence in the 2yo maiden, leading a furlong out for Mick Kinane before holding off Evelyn One by a diminishing neck.

Gordon Power had mixed fortunes on the evening as he partnered a winner but also picked up a seven days suspension (July 8 & 10-15).

Sticky Sweetheart was prominent throughout under Power in the 5f handicap, and kept on well in the closing stages to beat Step Back by 3/4L.

However he was in hot water earlier with the stewards having changed his equipment after weighing out before riding lightweight Claude Greengrass in the 1m handicap.

Power weighed in 2lb heavy after finishing seventh behind Huxley (Tadhg O'Shea) in this 20 runner event.

Step Back's trainer Ger Keane went one better in the 10f handicap where Miskilette finished strongly to touch off Tupgill Tipple by a neck.

Punters got it right in the concluding 10f maiden with Millstreet (5/2-7/4f) drawing clear from the furlong pole under John Murtagh to beat Luminous Beauty by 3L.

'It was hard to be confident as alot of my horses have been coughing this week. The good ground suited him, and I will now find a 10f handicap,' said trainer John Oxx.
