Review CURRAGH 5th May

Regime displayed battling qualities to win the High Chaparral EBF Mooresbridge Stakes in a desperately close finish.

The Michael Bell-trained raider (5-1) came to challenge Alarazi two furlongs out and had to dig deep for Pat Smullen to get on top close home for a head victory.

Mores Wells, who was short of room at a crucial time, finished a close-up third, with Hasanka also in the mix in fourth in the Group Three event.

Capt Chaos sprung a surprise as he came from last to first to dent some tall reputations in the Aussie Rules EBF Tetrarch Stakes.

Great War Eagle and favourite Hanoverian Baron set the pace in the Group Three contest, but Chris Hayes asked Capt Chaos to go for a tight gap on the rail over a furlong out and got a brave response.

The Edward Lynam-trained 9-1 shot squeezed through and ran on strongly to beat Great War Eagle by a length and three-quarters, with Hanoverian Baron fourth and Bruges trailing in last of five.

There was a bigger shock when two 33-1 shots fought out the finish of the Oratorio EBF Athasi Stakes, Prima Luce getting the better of Emily Blake.

The Jim Bolger-trained winner was always handy in the Group Three event and went for home with two furlongs to run, where Emily Blake was poised to challenge.

Kevin Manning got a good response from the leader and she battled on to take the spoils by three-quarters of a length.

Bolger was on the mark again when Malande (14-1) sprouted wings in the final furlong to take the Ivan Denisovich Handicap by four lengths under claimer Martin Harley.

Aidan O'Brien's newcomer Mastercraftsman (5-1) eventually got the hang of things to take the Antonius Pius EBF Maiden, Johnny Murtagh pulling him to the outside to get up in the last 50 yards for a half-length victory over Duc De Savoie.
