Review CURRAGH 14TH SEP

CURRAGH REVIEW 14-9-02

A large turnout at a sunny Curragh racetrack, wittnessed a thrilling display by Vinne Roe to land the final classic of the season, the St Leger at odds of 4/7.

Taking up the running over a furlong out he repelled the batteling challenge of Pugin, to land some hefty wagers in the progress.

Both Vinnie Roe and Pugin will now head for the Melbourne Cup at Flemington on the first Tuesday of November. The Dermot Weld trained runner is 5/1 favorite with Cashmans while Pugin (12LB better off) is 25/1.

Dermot weld landed a double on the day when his Seattle Slew, won the opening maiden over 5f, at odds of 6/4.

There were two English winners on the card, the Neville Callaghan trained Colonel Cotton and the Amanda Perrett trained Polar Way both collecting.

Polar Way was a first Curragh success for Perrett, although she did ride a winner at the track before.

Vintage Tipple was the impressive winner of the concluding 7f Fillies Race, quickening clear of her rivals inside the final furlong for a four length success.

James Burns continued his good run when Sonorous held on in a blanket finish to the Crown Paints Premier Handicap from the fast finishing pair Egyptian and East Tycoon.
