Review CURRAGH 28th Jun

Sir Michael Stoute captured the feature Audi Pretty Polly Stakes on the second day of the Irish Derby meeting at the Curragh thanks to a commanding display by Promising Lead.

Ryan Moore had the Khalid Abdullah-owned filly in second as Ice Queen established a long lead in the Group One event, and he quickened ahead just after entering the straight.

Mad About You went with her and for a few strides it looked as if there might be a duel between the pair, but Promising Lead (2-1 favourite) soon took charge and ran on well to score by a length and a quarter.

Anna Pavlova ran a fine race to take third, but dual Classic winner Finsceal Beo was a disappointment and made no show.

The winner now heads for the Nassau Stakes at Goodwood, while Mad About You is earmarked for the Irish Oaks.

Septimus landed odds of 1-2 on his seasonal debut in the At The Races Curragh Cup.

Aidan O'Brien's high-class stayer was sent up to tackle Peppertree Lane after turning into the straight by Johnny Murtagh and Mores Wells challenged at the same time.

The pair had a brief skirmish before Septimus switched on the power to clear away for a two-and-a-half-length victory.

Westphalia was sent off the 2-5 favourite for the Barronstown Stud Maiden and duly obliged, but the performance was more workmanlike than brilliant.

Murtagh always had the Ballydoyle colt well placed just behind the leaders and had the move covered when Douze Points kicked on approaching the final furlong.

Westphalia did not immediately respond when asked to go and win his race, but he was well on top in the end and won by a length and a quarter.

Sharleez ran out a very taking winner of the Jordan Town & Country Estate Agents EBF Fillies Handicap for the John Oxx yard.

The Aga Khan's filly had shown promise in Pattern company and landed this big prize with some authority after Mick Kinane brought her with a sweeping run to take the lead in the final furlong.

The 7-1 shot comfortably held the challenge of Almass by three-quarters of a length.

Impossible Dream (12-1
