Review CURRAGH 13TH AUG

Holy Roman Emperor showed his Coventry Stakes running to be all wrong when very easily landing the Independent Waterford Wedgwood Phoenix Stakes.

A year on from George Washington's brilliant performance, Holy Roman Emperor took Aidan O'Brien's record in this contest to eight wins from the last nine renewals.

An easy-to-back 13/8 joint market leader with Coventry winner, Hellvelyn, the son of Danehill led under a furlong out and quickened clear to beat the latter by 1 3/4L.

A quick reappearance in the Prix Morny at Deauville next weekend could now be on the cards. Of course Ivan Denisovich was runner-up in that race last year.

If he does run there he will be bidding to join Orpen, Fasliyev and Johannesburg as Ballydoyle victors of the six furlong Group 1.

Holy Roman Emperor is now a best-priced 10/1 shot for new year's 2,000 Guineas. Rider Kieren Fallon was also on the mark half-an-hour later in the Group 3.

Aboard the Lady O'Reilly-owned Dandy Nicholls-trained Moss Vale, this son of Shinko Forest comfortably took the Patrick P.O'Leary Memorial Phoenix Sprint Stakes.

Already a Curragh victor this term in the Greenlands Stakes back in May, the 5yo is making inroads on his purchase price of 260,000 guineas when bought out of Barry Hills' last autumn.

All four of the runners in the Group 2 Royal Whip Stakes hold entries in the Irish Champion Stakes on September 9th. Mustameet seems to be progressing enough for a tilt at that.

Four times a winner already this campaign coming here, the 5yo was going up in trip from a mile and he was also going up in class. He made light of those factors with an impressive win.

Settled in 3rd, Declan McDonogh's mount quickened to lead over a furlong out and Kevin Prendergast's gelding was soon clear to record an easy 3L success over well-backed favourite, Chelsea Rose.

Ireland's Call like Mustameet has been in the news albeit at a lower level this term. The grey made it four wins on the bounce, defying a 21Ib increase in the ratings in the 7f h'cap.

Oliver Casey has been in the plate for all those wins, the 5yo gelding trained by his father Peter was always prominent here, leading 2 furlongs out, staying on well when strongly pressed from a furlong out.

Arch Rebel has kept the colours of Pat Garvey in the limelight this term with wins in the Amethyst and Alleged Stakes. Arch Swing continued the good work for the owner in the opener.

This filly is trained by John Oxx and with Michael Kinane in the saddle she was surprisingly sent off at 14/1 for her debut in the juvenile maiden.

The American-bred stayed on well to lead close home, defeating favourite Theann by a neck. Romeo's On Fire was just a neck further back in third.

Four Sins was available at 6/1 in the morning for the fillies race and early shoppers were well-rewarded as John Oxx and Michael Kinane completed a double.

She opened at 5/2 on track, the daughter of Sinndar was returned the 2/1 joint favourite and she made all, edging clear from over 2 furlongs out and she could be eased close home and still win by 3 1/2L.

Little Eye justified short-priced favouritism in the 1m 2f h'cap for Dermot Weld and Pat Smullen. With two good efforts since coming from England, this fellow was an 11/8 shot.

David Myerscough trained his second winner, the other came at the Curragh too, when Grand Revival in the colours of his grandfather Vincent O'Brien took the closing h'cap under Kevin Manning.
