Review DOWN ROYAL 24TH JUN

Chris Hayes completed the 'classic' double at Down Royal when following up Saturday's victory on Temlett in the Specsavers Ulster Derby by taking the EBF Coolmore Stud Ulster Oaks aboard Aqraan.

The 19-year-old Limerick rider, champion apprentice for the past two seasons, rode out his claim in the 'Derby' but was still allowed to claim his 3lb on the Kevin Prendergast-trained filly.

The daughter of In The Wings led over a furlong out to beat the flattering Jalmira by two lengths, and Hayes was understandably delighted afterwards.

'It is unbelievable to do the double. I thought on Friday that I had a good book of rides for the weekend but it turned out to be a lot better than I expected,' said Hayes.

He was back in the winners enclosure just half-an-hour later when Killer Looks justified prohibitive odds of 1/3 in the sprint maiden. A fifth winner in two days at Down Royal for Hayes, the Eddie Lynam-trained gelding needed a few reminders inside the final furlong to beat Moverra by two lengths.

Martin Harley (16) from Donegal but based with Jim Bolger looks a name to note for the future as he recorded a first success by giving Proud Ruler an assured ride to beat Aldocos by three lengths in the ten furlongs handicap.

Barry Cash had a welcome change of fortune when partnering Manilou to take the Club Tonic Galway Plate Trial Handicap Chase. The Eoin Griffin-trained gelding arrived full of running in the straight but found little off the bridle and just held on by a neck from First Row.
