Review DOWNPATRICK 15TH NOV

An approximate 12/1 double for Paddy Flood, completed in the steward's room, was the main story to emerge from this seven race card.

The Kildare man was aboard Ballyfinney in the two mile two and a half furlong beginners chase for Dessie Hughes and this 11/4 favourite just came off worst by a short head to The Tricky Bricky.

However interference off the last bend was deemed to have been crucial and the result was amended after a lengthy enquiry. The brace was initiated in the opener.

Like his full-brother, Waking Ned, L'Acajou showed stamina to be his strong suit when always to the fore in the 2m 6f maiden hurdle under Flood for Edward O'Grady.

Odds of 7/2 had been availed of about this fellow in the morning and his backers were happy with themselves when he drew clear soon after two out, going on for an eased close home 13L win.

For the O'Grady yard this was a ninth winner in the month of November whilst in the same period for Flood this two-timer represented victory number nine as well.

Noel Meade and Paul Carberry are also doing very well and Orbit O'Gold, a beaten favourite on two of his three previous hurdle outings, set the record straight in the 4yo maiden hurdle.

The American-bred last time put in a creditable effort on the level when fourth in the Leopardstown November Handicap.

Here the easy-to-back 7/2 shot drew clear from the last to easily defeat Streets Of Gold (5/2 in the morning and 9/4 into 11/8 favourite on track) by 7L.

Union Gap brought-up a double for Noel Meade when Nina Carberry sported his own silks in the bumper, getting there on the line on the newcomer to deprive Thetimesright.

Shane Jackson from Baltinglass rode his first winner in the paid ranks when his boss, Philip Rothwell's Moody Lad made most for a battling 3 1/2L success in the Martinstown Opportunity H'cap Hurdle.

Jackson has three point-to-point wins under his belt and he got off the mark on the racecourse proper on Silver Pat at Bellewstown back in July.

Moody Lad was headed approaching two out having made the running, however he was back in front at the last and he stayed on well under pressure to fend off the favourite, Ballynashig.

Renepogel beat Hardwick when he won a point-to-point for Danny O'Connell at Boulta in November of 2004 and he made outing number eighteen a winning one on the track in the h'cap chase.

Under the care of David Ryan now, he was steered here by his brother, Tom, and he made all, went clear after three out and came home an unextended 26L winner.

Castelnaydry fell at the third in this event, That's My Mare was hampered and also went here and 11/10 market-leader, Best World was hampered and unseated rider at the same juncture.

Similarly half-an-hour later, the ex-Pat Doyle scorer between the flags,' Romek put falls on his two most recent efforts behind him when gaining an all-the-way win in the 2m 7f beginners chase.

Supported at 10/1 in the morning, the son of Presenting (returned at 7/1) beat Lovely Present by 4 1/2L in the hands of Tommy Treacy for Jessica Harrington.

Cool Running rounded-off a disappointing session for Tony McCoy in the J P McManus colours, principally on Christy Roche-trained horses, managing only fourth.
