Review FAIRYHOUSE 24th Mar

Hear The Echo bounced back from a couple of disappointing efforts to run the race of his life and land the Powers Whiskey Irish Grand National at Fairyhouse.

The 33-1 chance had hinted at a return to his best when seventh at

Leopardstown last time and was majestic in this marathon test, travelling well under Paddy Flood before scooting clear on the home turn.

Joint-favourite Royal County Star loomed ominously at the second last, but Mouse Morris' charge outjumped his rival at the last two fences to run out a commanding 12-length winner.

Morris said: "We thought he was well and we were a bit disappointed with him at Leopardstown last time.

"I think you'd have to say he could be an Aintree horse for the future, he should have a chance next year."

Retiring jockey Conor O'Dwyer signed off his riding career with a winner after guiding Mister Top Notch to an emphatic victory in the Betchronicle On Course Hurdle.

After driving the 3-1 chance to a seven-length success over Boulavogue, O'Dwyer was afforded a guard of honour by his fellow jockeys on returning to the winners' enclosure for the final time as a rider.

The opening Betchronicle Private Client Telebet Hurdle was a match between hot 4-6 favourite Earth Magic and eventual winner Kalderon (11-10). The alarm bells were ringing before the second last as Tom Doyle was forced to push Earth Magic along, and despite a clumsy leap two out, Kalderon swooped after the last to win by two-and-a-half lengths under David Casey.

Shakervilz continued on an upward curve when finishing a comfortable winner of the betchronicle.com Hurdle.

Always travelling smoothly under Ruby Walsh, the 2-1 market leader jumped into the lead three from home.

Hi Cloy gave his all to try an reel in the winner, but Willie Mullins charge was too strong, galloping on remorselessly for a five-length success.
