Review FAIRYHOUSE 24TH SEP

John Murtagh made a successful return to domestic action after his 21 days suspension by recording a 17/1 double in the opening two races aboard Helena Molony and Flashy Beau.

High Chaparral's sister Helena Molony made a belated winning debut in the 10f maiden, overcoming trouble in running to beat the pace-setting Danielli by two lengths.

Murtagh had a few anxious moments as his mount was temporarily boxed in by Undercover Glamour on the far rail two furlongs out but she quickened up well when switched out.

'She's had no real problems but has been immature and backward. It's just in the last five weeks that she's come to herself and she'd appreciate a bit further and easier ground,' said John Oxx's assistant Jimmy O'Neill.

Murtagh producing Flashy Beau to lead over a furlong out in division one of the 10f handicap, staying on well to beat Amberlina by 2L.

'He's been very consistent all year and that's our 23rd winner of the season although we are starting to run out of ammunition,' said trainer Ger Lyons who is enjoying his best year.

Set Fire completed a great day for the Murtagh household by carrying the colours of Johnny's wife Orla to land the featured 50,000 Premier Nursery.

The Michael Halford-trained filly came back with a renewed effort for Rory Cleary inside the final furlong to beat Shaperelli by a neck.

'She was getting intimidated in some of her races but the smaller field gave her more daylight and she may go for the Birdcatcher at Naas,' said the Curragh trainer.

Cleary was also in double form having earlier taken division two of the 10f handicap aboard Cockney Tai, sweeping to the front inside the final furlong to beat Jemmy's Flame by 1L.

'She works well at home but it's been a long haul to get a win with her. She's National Hunt bred and we started off in bumpers, and she was more relaxed today than normal,' explained trainer Pat Morris.

Meadow also gained an important winning bracket with a future at stud in mind, getting a nice run up the inner under Chris Geoghegan to beat Koukalova by 2L in the apprentice handicap.

Musique Magique was another well-bred filly to score by making a successful debut in the 7f fillies maiden, drawing clear inside the final furlong to score by 3L for Niall McCullagh.

'She could be a good filly and we might have a look at the Listed Silken Glider at the Curragh (October 23). She's taken a bit of time as she was growing a lot but has always shown ability,' said Michael Grassick.

Million Waves finished with a flourish under Padraig Beggy in the juvenile auction maiden to overhaul Lady Orpen in the closing stages by half a length.

Moratorium quickened up well under a well judged ride by Colm O'Donoghue in the 1m4f handicap, leading inside the final furlong to beat Breathing Sun by 2L.
