Review GOWRAN PARK 29TH AUG

Cache Creek, third in the race last year and making a quick reappearance after finishing fourth in the Ruby Stakes at Tralee on Tuesday last, gained swift recompense when landing the featured Listed Denny Cordell Lavarack Fillies Stakes at Gowran Park yesterday.

Pat Hughes charge travelled well until asked to go about her business and led over a furlong out under Fran Berry. The daughter of Marju was soon in control, lengthening away for a convincing length and a half success.

Hughes had major cause to be happy in the aftermath, explaining, 'she got bumped around a bit at Tralee and came back with a few little scratches. I didnt know whether shed be ready for this.'

Coupled with that, there was an even greater reason why the mare mightnt have been in the line-up here. She had been in foal and would only have been able to race up until the twenty third of the month.

Scanned before being sent back to her owner, she was found to have absorbed the foetus. Hughes now maintains that the six-year-old is 'entitled to have a crack' at the Blanford Stakes at the Curragh next month.

Newcomer, Only Make Believe got in as first reserve in the opening maiden and Kevin Manning, partnering his first winner since coming back from an injury, guided the Jim Bolger-trained chestnut to a stylish victory.

Bolger doubled his score later in the afternoon in the mile one furlong handicap. Addario, with a fixed 5Ib penalty for a Tralee success last Wednesday, made it three on the bounce with a hard-fought half a length win.

David Moran, who incurred a three day ban for using his whip with excessive frequency on that occasion was again on board, and unfortunately for him, he picked up another four days here for the same offence.

Well backed, going off 9/4 favourite (from 11/4), Addario was gaining her third win at this course, all of which have been achieved since June.

At the eighteenth time of asking, well-supported favourite, Peineve (8/1 to 6/1) with Cathy Gannon aboard, deservedly opened her account in the seven furlong handicap for Tim Doyle, defeating top-weight, Mainly Mine by two lengths.

Another that took their time to get off the mark was Kerry Way (8s to 6s). However the five-year-old rewarded the patience of his trainer, Tommy Stack, the bottom weight capturing the final race by a head in the hands of Padraig Beggy.

Rhapsody Rose and Jamie Spencer forced the issue from the outset in the fillies maiden, the 10/1 chance showing plenty of courage to fend off a host of challengers despite drifting under pressure.

Brothers, Tom and Willie Mullins were involved at the business end of the sixth, the formers Padre Nostro gaining the day by the narrowest of margins under Michael Kinane, Willies Bunkers Hill a neck away in third.

Ease The Ways form figures now read 321, Moyglare Studs son of Nashwan leading a furlong and a half out in the mile and a half maiden under Pat Smullen and staying on well for a two length win for the Dermot Weld yard.
